Most websites that underperform were not badly built — they were unclear about their job. A little planning before any design work makes the difference.
Start with one primary goal
Decide what you most want a visitor to do: call, request a quote, buy, book. Every page should make that next step obvious. Secondary goals are fine, but they should not compete.
Know who you are talking to
List the two or three kinds of customer you serve and what each needs to know before contacting you. Those questions become your page structure.
Plan content before layout
Real text and images shape a design far better than placeholders. Gather service descriptions, project examples and answers to common questions early, even in rough form.
Think about the day after launch
Who will update the site? How will enquiries be handled? How will you know it is working? Agree on simple measures — enquiries, orders, calls — so the website can be judged on outcomes, not opinions.
